The HERS® Index is an assessment of estimated energy efficiency of a particular home computed by inputting home features into proprietary software approved by RESNET. The HERS Index is a registered trademark of RESNET. Additional information on the HERS Index and RESNET can be found at www.resnet.us. The pre-construction HERS Index for the home plan is for the base plan. The as-built HERS Index for the home may be different than the pre-construction HERS Index for the home plan due to factors such as structural options, additional optional features and home orientation. The RESNET HERS Index is computed by an independent rating company hired by CalAtlantic Homes. The HERS Index is not a warranty or guaranty of energy efficiency. Estimated energy efficiency between homes with HERS Indexes is determined by comparing the HERS Indexes. By way of example, a home with a HERS Index of 75 is estimated to be 20% more energy efficient than a home with a HERS Index of 95. The typical new home with a HERS Index of 100 is an estimate for a home built to the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code. Building codes differ by location. Current building codes require energy efficiencies not required by the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code. The typical existing/resale home with a HERS Index of 130 is an estimate of the HERS Index for existing/resale homes within the U.S. housing stock used by the proprietary software and the actual median or average of the HERS Index of the U.S. housing stock or any particular home in the U.S. housing stock may be different. Actual energy cost and/or energy usage are dependent on a number of factors, including utility rates, energy consumption, home maintenance, size of household, energy conservation practices, home orientation and climate locations.
